Sweet Serendipity: The joy in single motherhood

 

Limei Lai (40) and her 6-year old daughter, Nadia spending quality time painting at home. Mei is a final year art student, majoring in painting and a proud single mom.

To honor her culture and celebrate the New Year, Mei prepared dumplings, using traditional Chinese methods and ingredients. The clothing worn by Mei is her own art, which depicts her and Nadia gazing at the sky. 

Nadia who is an avid avocado toast lover working on homework while her mom attends virtual class. Single motherhood, as described by Mei, is a balancing act. 

Mei helping Nadia, who she nicknames 'Na', practice her keyboard. Piano is an instrument commonly played by Chinese people. Being attached to roots and tradition is highly valued by Mei.  

The personality of Nadia shines through. As long as her daughter is healthy and happy, Mei is satisfied. These small moments of connection, art, and culture are what embody serendipity. Sweet Serendipity.
